Methodology

How FoundX was made

Every number on FoundX comes from what was said on air. Each turn was labelled and checked against the words. This page explains how, what is covered, and where the data is weak.

Where the data comes from

We analyse the speech of the broadcast episodes of Shark Tank Egypt, from season 1 to season 6: 75 episodes and 245 pitches. FoundX hosts no video and does not publish transcripts. Every number and every quoted line shows its time and opens its moment on the pitch timeline.

How speakers were identified

Each turn of speech is given a speaker: an investor, a founder or the host. FoundX covers the 12 named investors who sat on the panel. Speech we could not attribute to one of them is left out of the investor figures.

How events were labelled and checked

A language model labels what each investor does, turn by turn. It chooses from a fixed list: question, concern, objection, praise, offer, revision, went out (said no to investing) and a few more. Every label points to the turn and the words it came from. We check it against those words before it is counted. That gives 11,452 investor events and 5,271 graded answers.

How quotes are shown

FoundX does not publish what was said word for word. Each line under a speaker’s name is a paraphrase: a language model rewrites it from the words said, the turns around them and the label they were given, so that it reads as one clear sentence in your language. It is marked “Paraphrased”. Every number in it is checked against the figure said on air. When the words are too unclear to rewrite faithfully, the line is left out and only the event is shown.

Seasons 4 and 6 are only partly covered (2 and 3 episodes analysed), so their rates are based on 8 and 9 pitches. Season comparisons carry this note.

Known limits

  • Speech recognition misses words in short turns. Where context fills a gap, the paraphrase says what the speaker most likely meant; such lines are not used as headline quotes.
  • Amounts are shown in Egyptian pounds (EGP), as said on air. Inflation changes their value from season to season, so season comparisons can show US dollars at the exchange rate of the air date.
  • Seasons 4 and 6 are partial. Only some of their episodes are analysed, so their rates rest on few pitches.
  • Correlation is labelled as correlation, and no chart is drawn for fewer than 10 pitches.

Money and exchange rates

Amounts are shown in EGP as said on air. Some pages put pitches from different seasons side by side (Explore, Compare and the industry pages). There, a switch shows amounts in US dollars (USD) at the rate of the air date. Each amount is divided by the average EGP per USD in the year its season aired, and the figure is marked “≈”.

A median (the middle value) in USD is worked out again from the converted pitches. It is not the EGP median converted. The rates used are yearly averages of the Central Bank of Egypt official rate, and they are approximate:

  • 2022: 19.2
  • 2023: 30.6
  • 2024: 45.4
  • 2025: 50.3
  • 2026: 48.5 (provisional, until the year ends)

Season 6 has no confirmed air year yet, so it uses the latest rate. Amounts said in USD stay as said.

Report a mistake

Every data footer has a “Report a mistake” link. Tell us the pitch and the moment. We will fix the label and note the change on this page.

People who appeared on the show can ask us to remove their name or their pitch. We reply within 7 days and act on a confirmed request within 30 days.
